How To Get Here:

Heysham North Wall is an extremely easy venue to find. if you simply follow your satnav to LA3 2XF, you will arrive at the traffic lights just before the power station, turn right here and follow the road down until you reach the gated entrance to the harbour, turn right again and follow the road around past the pepper pot, and you have arrived.

You can fish anywhere along the sea wall between the pepper pot and the metal fence blocking off peel ports.

The screenshot below shows you the fishing mark and how to access it from the main traffic lights in front of the power station.

As the above photo shows, access to the North Wall is very simple, and is the perfect location for any angler with mobility issues, as you literally can cast from the back of your car.

This sea fishing mark is popular with the locals, and at times can get busy, with many rushing early to get to the corner position, but good fish can, and are caught from the full length of the wall.

When To Fish Heysham North Wall

The tide comes in relatively slowly here, however, if you are at the far end of the wall you can usually cast into a good depth of water around 2 and a half hours before high tide, and you get a good 2 hours after the tide turns.

In the summer months you tend the find the bass pass through here very early into the tide, so we recommend get your bait out as early as possible.

The North Wall can produce good fish throughout, with rays frequently making an appearance on the ebb.

How To Fish North Wall

A very popular all year round venue. The Heysham North Wall is particularly popular due to how easy it is to fish.

You can clearly see the channel in front of the wall, if you can get your bait into, or as close to this as possible it generally yields good results.

The Bait Butcher team have fished this mark several times this year, and have caught a variety of species, ranging from thornback rays, smooth hounds, bass, whiting, plaice, and flounder.

We went armed with our Bait Butcher Pulley Rigs for the bigger species and a standard 2-hook flapper for some flattie bashing.

We found that fresh black baits worked the best for bass and flatties, while the smooth hounds and rays fell to whole squid.

Our Verdict

The Bait Butcher team have fished the Heysham North Wall multiple times in the 2024 season, and it is easy to see why it is such a popular sea fishing mark with the locals.

It is an easy venue to find, with extremely easy access, and even easier fishing, and as mentioned above a great sea fishing mark for those not able to do long walks over rocks and sandy beaches.

Definitely a sea fishing mark worth visiting if you have never been here, the locals say its quite hit and miss, when one day can fish brilliant, the next not so much, but that rings true with most sea fishing marks across the UK.

A great venue for families, and an easy venue to get the kids having a go.

Stay safe, and tight lines! Don't forget, if you are looking to upgrade your tackle, we have all the sea fishing gear you could possible need!
