At Bait Butcher, we believe fishing is more than just catching fish — it’s about fresh air, real adventures, and making memories outdoors. That’s why we’re launching a Junior Perch Fishing Competition this August, aimed at getting kids off screens and onto the towpaths of our local canals.
If you’ve got a young angler (or a soon-to-be angler!) under 16, this is the perfect chance to get them involved in a fun, friendly fishing challenge — and maybe even land them some bragging rights!
How It Works:
The competition runs throughout August.
It’s all about Perch fishing on the Lancaster and surrounding canal network.
To enter, simply pop into Bait Butcher in Lancaster and collect an entry form.
Then it’s over to the water! The junior angler who catches the biggest perch wins.
It’s free to enter, and there are great prizes up for grabs.
Why We're Doing This:
We’re passionate about encouraging young people to experience the outdoors. Fishing teaches patience, focus, and respect for nature — qualities that don’t come from sitting in front of a tablet or gaming console. This competition is all about creating a buzz around fishing for the next generation and getting kids to explore the amazing wildlife right on their doorstep.
Whether it’s a first-time fishing trip or your child’s already a keen angler, this is a brilliant opportunity to get them excited, meet other local fishing families, and spend quality time away from screens.
