At the heart of the STR KURO are extra-tough 5.3:1 stainless steel gears, providing smooth, high-torque winding power and long-term durability. The reel features a one-piece low profile solid aluminium cage, paired with lightweight anodised aluminium side plates that reduce overall weight by almost 100g, allowing for a faster, more responsive casting action and potentially greater distance.

Casting performance is further enhanced by a free-floating spool system, supported by two ABEC 5 stainless steel bearings, and a combined centrifugal and magnetic braking system.
